Follow the paths where people have walked for thousands of years. Gaze up at massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky. Experience the tall, stretching walls of a narrow slot canyon. Zion’s unique array of plants and animals will enchant you as you absorb the rich history of the past and enjoy the excitement of present-day adventures.

🌤 Weather Information

Zion is known for a wide range of weather conditions. Temperatures vary with changes in elevation and day/night temperatures may differ by over 30°F. In summer, temperatures in Zion National Park often exceed 100°F/38°C. Zion experiences monsoons from mid-July into September that result in an increased risk of flash floods. Always be aware of the threat of storms and lightning and be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions. Winters are generally mild.

šŸš— Directions

Zion National Park's main, south entrance and administrative offices are located near Springdale, Utah You may drive yourself on all open park roads except the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. During most of the year, the Scenic Drive is accessed by shuttle bus only. Shuttles are free to ride. Board one in Springdale or at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center.

Due to a fire, Kolob Canyons Scenic Drive is closed just before Lee Pass Trailhead. Lee Pass, Hop Valley, South Fork, La Verkin Creek, and Timber Creek trailheads are closed until further notice. The Kolob Canyons Visitor Center and bookstore remain open.

The West Rim Trail to Angels Landing Closed on June 4, 2015
The West Rim Trail to just above Scout Lookout, including the Angels Landing route, will be closed on June 4, 2015 for a human waste removal operation by helicopter. The trail will reopen when the operation is complete.

Morning Watchman Trail Hike

Embark on a journey through the wonders of Zion Canyon! Hike alongside a ranger on the moderate Watchman Trail to immerse yourself in the beautiful resources Zion has to offer. Along the way you may explore topics of geology, wildlife, plants, human history, and so much more.

This program requires free advanced in-person only registration at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center front desk. Make sure to reserve your spot up to 3 days in advance.

You’ll ascend an elevation change of 368 ft (112 m) on a rocky, uneven trail with moderate drop-offs along the way. The overlook at the end offers expansive views of lower Zion Canyon with high drop-offs and no guard rails. For accessibility information, visit our Trail Access Information page.
