📘 Park Overview

Women’s Rights National Historical Park tells the story of the first Women’s Rights Convention, held in Seneca Falls, New York on July 19-20, 1848. It is a story of struggles for civil rights, human rights, and equality, global struggles that continue today. The efforts of women’s rights leaders, abolitionists, and other 19th century reformers remind us that all people must be accepted as equals.

In the winter, temperatures range from 0-40 degrees with an average of 10 inches of snow per month. Summer temperatures range from 60-85 degrees with high humidity.

🚗 Directions

From the New York State Thruway (I-90) take exit 41 (Waterloo, Route 414). Turn right onto Route 414 South after exiting the tollbooth. Follow Route 414 South for approximately four miles. At the intersections of Route 414 and Routes 5 & 20, turn left onto Route 5 & 20 East. Follow for approximately one and a half miles into the Village of Seneca Falls. The Visitor Center is on the left at 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.

Women's Rights National Historical Park is open Fridays and Saturdays ONLY, between December 21, 2025 and February 28, 2026. "'For the Slave is Our Brother:' Christmas and the Anti-Slavery Movement" Special Exhibit

During your visit to the historic Wesleyan Chapel, please be sure to see our special exhibit, "'For the Slave is Our Brother:' Christmas and the Anti-Slavery Movement." 

This four panel series guides you through some the amazing connections between some of the traditions of the current celebration of Christmas, and their origins in the early Anti-Slavery campaigns. The five organizers of the First Women's Rights Convention all had experiences with the Anti-Slavery movement (as did many of the attendees), and would have known about and used these symbols and traditions in their yearly celebrations. 

These panels are a returning exhibit, that is available during the month of December.  

Location: The special exhibit is displayed within the historic Wesleyan Chapel. The park's visitor center, located at 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, NY 13148, is located adjacent to the chapel. Parking is available directly behind the visitor center, and on the surrounding streets.

"A Season for Change: Abolition, Women's Rights, & Christmas Bazaars" - Drop-in Program

Learn about the “Christmas ribbon” that ties together abolition, women’s rights, and the history of holiday market fairs - known as Christmas Bazaars.  Join Ranger Joshua as he explores how these three movements helped shape the Christmas markets we know today; and how their legacy is woven into the fight to end slavery and advance women's rights in the holiday season.

"It's A Wonderful Life" Festival - 2025

The “It’s A Wonderful Life" Festival is an annual cultural heritage attraction and celebration hosted by the Town of Seneca Falls in honor of the classic 1946 holiday film set in Bedford Falls, and inspired by the real-life Seneca Falls, New York.  The three-day event (December 12 -14, 2025) features a variety of community programs, including: a downtown parade, 5K run, film-screenings, special guest speakers, and more.  

The Park’s multi-day programs will feature interpretive history talks and “drop-in” special topic programs by park rangers that connect the efforts of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Fredrick Douglass, and other early women’s rights activists and abolitionists to historical Christmas, Watchnight, and other holiday celebrations.  There will also be a special exhibit in the Wesleyan Chapel; a guest speaker (with a Special Park Use permit) on Sunday; and the following:

  • Winter-themed Family Crafts & Coloring Sheets (Visitor Center).

"Pen Pals for Change" - Drop-in program

The women who organized the 1848 Women’s Rights Convention used letters to invite people to hear their important ideas at the convention. They also wrote many letters to each other over the years since they lived in different places. They would talk of holiday traditions, tasty meals they had enjoyed, and what they admired about their friends and family. Join Ranger Nicole to send your own letter to family or friends, with envelopes and stamps provided. Let your loved ones know you are thinking of them and share your festival adventures! All ages are welcome!

100-Year-Old “Rosie the Riveter," Mary Masciangelo Shares Her Remarkable Life Story

Mary Masciangelo, who served on the home front during World War II, will share stories of the important wartime work she performed—helping support America’s factories at a pivotal time in history. Attendees will also hear about Mary’s unwavering love for her family, her continued dedication to supporting Veterans, and a special family connection to actor Jimmy Stewart, beloved worldwide for his portrayal of George Bailey in the classic Christmas movie, It’s A Wonderful Life.
