This was Martin Luther King, Jr. Explore his roots, walk in his footsteps, visit the home of his birth, and where he played as a child. Hear his voice in the church where he changed the world.

JoinĀ the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park and Preservation District in honoring the life, legacy, and enduring vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the 2026 King Holiday observance, January 15ā19. This multi-day commemoration invites students, families, volunteers, and the broader community to reflect on Dr. Kingās message of service, justice, and the Beloved Community through education, worship, and action.
The week begins with a 97th Birthday Observance designed for grade school students, offering an engaging and meaningful introduction to Dr. Kingās life and impact. Community members are then invited to participate in a Volunteer Day of Service, putting Dr. Kingās call to serve others into action.
On Sunday, experience the power of faith and music during the Beloved Community Gospel Tribute at Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, celebrating the spiritual roots of the Civil Rights Movement. The observance concludes on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a full day of reflection and engagement at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park.

Celebrate Black History Month with an interactive scavenger hunt through the historic Sweet Auburn community ā the place where Martin Luther King Jr. was born, lived, worked, worshipped, and is laid to rest.
Participants will explore key locations throughout the park and preservation district, following clues and completing engaging challenges that highlight Dr. Kingās life, leadership, and lasting legacy. Pick up your scavenger hunt at Historic Fire Station No. 6 during regular park hours, then return with your completed answers to earn a special commemorative prize.
This self-guided activity is appropriate for all ages, families, school groups, and community organizations. Park maps are available at the Temporary Visitor Center Information Desk to help guide your journey.

Join a Park Ranger for a guided walking tour through historic Sweet Auburn in observance of Black History Month.
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, this engaging tour starts at Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church (407 Auburn Ave. NE) ā the spiritual home of Martin Luther King Jr. and a cornerstone of the Civil Rights Movement.
Participants will explore the rich history of the Sweet Auburn community, discovering the places where Dr. King was born, lived, worked, worshipped, and is laid to rest. Through stories of faith, activism, leadership, and community resilience, this ranger-led experience connects the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement to the broader theme of A Century of Black History Commemorations.
The tour is free and open to the public. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Join the parkās Preservation Team and Student Conservation Association (SCA) interns for a hands-on preservation demonstration at the beautiful Martin Luther King, Jr. International World Peace Rose Garden.
On Saturday, February 28 from 1:00 p.m. ā 3:00 p.m., visitors will learn how preservation professionals care for historic landscapes and protect the cultural resources that make Sweet Auburn a nationally significant site. This interactive experience will highlight the techniques, tools, and stewardship practices used to maintain the Rose Garden and surrounding historic environment.
Participants will have the opportunity to observe demonstrations, ask questions, and engage directly with preservation staff and SCA interns about careers in conservation and the importance of safeguarding historic spaces for future generations.
Food options will be available onsite from 12:00 p.m. ā 4:00 p.m., provided by the Food Truck Association of Georgia.

TheĀ Dr. King: Laboring for Freedom in Georgia exhibit invites you to explore the powerful connection between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.ās professional life and his relentless pursuit of justiceāall rooted in the heart of Georgia, his home state.
Through historic photographs, newspapers, and compelling video footage, you will encounter the places, people, and pivotal moments that shaped Dr. Kingās journey in Georgia. From his early leadership with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference to his hands-on role in several civil rights campaigns in the state, this exhibit reveals how his work in Georgia was an important part of the larger national movement.
Watch and discover the labor behind the dreamāthe meetings, speeches, and community efforts that fueled a movement for equality.
