Crowning the Grand Staircase, Cedar Breaks sits at over 10,000 feet and looks down into a half-mile deep geologic amphitheater. Come wander among timeless bristlecone pines, stand in lush meadows of wildflowers, ponder crystal-clear night skies and experience the richness of our subalpine forest.

🌤 Weather Information

Cedar Breaks sits at over 10,000 feet in elevation and is usually 10-20 degrees cooler than surrounding parks. Be prepared for cooler temperatures and unpredictable weather. Snow, sleet, and hail can occur at any time of the year, even in the summer! Summer-time highs are between 60 and 70°F and night-time lows dip to 30-40s°F. Thunderstorms frequently develop in the afternoons. Be aware of lightning and avoid exposed trails and overlooks until storms pass.

🚗 Directions

Cedar Breaks National Monument is located east of Cedar City, Utah, just a short drive from Interstate 15. The park is centrally located between Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Due to forecasted thunderstorms and unsettled evening weather, the Night Sky Tour for Friday, September 5, has been canceled. We appreciate your understanding and hope to see you under clear skies soon.
UT 148 Closed & Un-groomed for Snowmobiles. Information
Utah Highway 148, the main road through Cedar Breaks National Monument, is currently closed. The south entrance of HWY 148 IS plowed to Point Supreme, but the remaining portion is unplowed & un-groomed for snowmobilers. Click "more" below for more info.

Park Events

Guided Snowshoe Tour

Join us for a beginner-friendly Guided Snowshoe Tour and connect with the natural beauty found within the park. Participants will hike a distance of 1-mile roundtrip through snowy terrain, learning from rangers as they stop along the way to share information about the Monument. Approximately halfway through the hike, the group will stop for a 15-minute Ranger program. In total, the entire experience will last about one hour and thirty minutes.

The equipment, including snowshoes and a pair of ski poles, are available to all participants at no cost. There is no fee for joining a Guided Snowshoe Tour, however, there is an entrance fee to visit the park. All groups will be required to pay an entrance fee of $25 per vehicle. Alternatively, Interagency Annual Passes, also called America the Beautiful Pass, will waive the per-person fee of visitors traveling together in a single vehicle.
